Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is a national public research university in Singapore, founded in 1981 as the Nanyang Technological Institute (NTI) to address the country's shortage of engineers. Elevated to full university status in 1991, NTU is known for its strong programs in engineering, science, and technology. With a main campus covering 200 hectares, NTU is the largest university campus in Singapore, operating in conjunction with the [[national-university-of-singapore|National University of Singapore]] and other institutions to support national goals of industrial upgrading and research-intensive higher education.
